All of mine potted on into compartments now. After last years experimenting i'm growing 60 of each variety in 20 cell compartments, as used for the sweet peas, and 28 of each in larger cells. Using two different composts this year, Humax original and Interhort professional. I get them delivered from taylors choice. Will compare how each compost does.

I just transplant them to the same depth as they were in the seed tray or whatever they were started in and they are stood up straight to try and get a uniform shape to the bulb.

Got my first two onions up today as they looked about the right size. First one was 9 oz, 2nd one was bang on the 8oz, so when dressed will be a little less. Will now make myself a little cardboard template to the size of the good one and will measure the rest of the onions as they grow and get them up when they reach size. They reckon at least 3 weeks to get to the colour wanted so I'll be happy if I can get a good selection by the 18th July.
