I had a white lilly given to me yesterday the first one I put in a tub which never grew so my friend said put them in the garden as her garden is full of them
I bought two baskets of fushias from mail order only one is growing now and they are so small
Is it to late to throw flower seeds around now as my border are getting bare

I think it's a bit late to scatter seeds & get anything to come up & flower this year joysie21 but you might get some summer bedding plants cheap from garden centres etc. which you could put in now as they're getting rid of leftover stock.

You might just spot something you really like, rosie. Well, my plan for my cleared area is :a Hydrangea paniculata 'Early Sensation' which I bought at a specialist tree nursery yesterday. I actually went to collect a H. villosa but I changed my mind when I saw the pink one. I also bought three Anemone 'Queen Charlotte' and a Geranium 'Rozanne' to trsill over the wall. If I can prepare the soil at the back properly I would like three Queen Elizabeth roses there, but I am holding off ordering them until I've made some progress on preparation.

We went to Bluebell Cottage Garden, Dutton at the weekend & I got a bog sage - salvia uliginosa - for the 'soggy' end of the garden & a willow-leaved sunflower - helianthus salicfolius - for the 'not so soggy' end. Sue (Beesley, the owner) has the sunflower in her garden there, it's perennial gets very tall & has beautiful wispy weeping foliage so I'm hoping it won't get eaten by the slugs here as lots of sunflowers do. It can be a bit invasive but I doubt it'll manage that here. Pic. of it I took at Bluebell cottage on the right & in foreground.:- upload images

Sue has some interesting plants there Rosie , glad you got what you wanted. I'd been looking for the bog sage after I saw Carol Klein mention it & after looking online found that one of the few places they had it advertised was at Bluebell Cottage which isn't that far from us.

I often have a look through her stock. It took me around 18 months to finally get Jeana in the UK. Now I just need to get Rose Leslie's dream ordered up for my brothers place in the bed Bog sage looks lovely, are the flowers more purple or blue SueA?

There are a couple of little light blue flowers on it at the moment Rosie, the flowers aren't massive but the plant's quite tall & should be O.K. down near the pond although I think it's borderline hardy so I'll have to take some cuttings.

Oops, was it raining or did you drop it somewhere you shouldn't have grindle?! I bought a few plants from the 'search & rescue' section at High Legh garden centre yesterday - a pack of 6 sedums, a penstemon & a I think it was a big pot of gerbera or some sort of daisy, for £3 each will have to look at the labels when I go out as I can't remember exactly what they were.
