Not sure if that's a 'typo' Geumlover, you've put Abbotswood but it was Abbeywood we went to. We have been there once before but it was a different time of year & to be honest we weren't all that impressed that time, I think it's more of a restaurant & 'venue' & the gardens are still being developed & they were 'bitty' but the setting is lovely. We only went this time because of the plant fair & thought the gardens looked a lot better, they had a 'tropical' area as well as the prairie style beds & they were full of butterflies & bees. We've been to Trentham Gardens a few years ago too & I did like the long borders by Piet Oudolf & Tom Stuart-Smith, they're not usually my thing either in general, I think you need a big area to get the right effect but they do look impressive. I like mixed all year round borders but I'm like a magpie with plants & would like a few grasses now.

Sorry, yes a typo, meant Abbeywood, the one near Delamere Forest. The nursery just along from there, Morrey's is brilliant.

I missed that Geumlover, will have to have a look next time we're in the area. We go to Stonyford Cottage Garden which is around there (not open all year round though), lovely garden, mainly woodland & water & a good little nursery, mostly grown there on site - I've got a lot of my 'bog' type plants from them, nice little cafe too.

Morreys is another mile or so towards Kelsall, on the right just before the traffic lights. Good prices. All grown on site too.

Thanks Geumlover, will have a look, we must have driven past it without noticing. Mount Pleasant is another garden near Kelsall which is lovely in summer - fantastic wildflower meadow, Japanese garden, sculptures, bog garden, small homegrown plant sale area, worth a look if you haven't been.

Thanks for the tip about Morreys Geumlover, we called in there yesterday, didn't stay very long as it was bucketing down with rain but I did get 3 grasses from them - Miscanthus 'Red Chief' & 'Ferne Osten' & carex testacea for £3.55 each, big pots, good value. Saw a lovely malus there which we may go back for, they have lots of great trees & shrubs & not bad prices. I loved the planting behind the tree section meant to tempt you:-

We did go to a plant fair yesterday at Arley Hall even though it was wet & windy & luckily it stayed dry for a while. There is a stallholder who goes & usually has an offer of any 4 plants for £10 so I got a phlox, echinacea, stipa & squirrel tail grass from him & an aster 'Monch' from the Arley Hall stall for £3.

I've sent away for my Rems favourite Tulips and 75 Anemone Nemorosa, they will go into the bottom of the bed I'm working on. Love our native Anemone

I sent for 40 free tulips from Woolmans on Tuesday which were a subscriber offer from G.World magazine (just £5,65 postage) & they arrived yesterday (Wednesday) - less than 24 hours later - with a voucher for free p&p on your next order, that's what I call service!

I think Crocus are even more expensive than Sarah Raven @willow, I subscribe to G.World mag. & they often have 10 or 20% off Crocus & it still seems expensive to me although I believe the plants are good quality. I got a pack of Thalia daff. bulbs & a pack of 50 mixed onion sets (red, gold, white) from Wilko's yesterday for £2 each, lots of bargain bulbs on offer there but I'm trying to restrain myself for now! Did you know that Crocus is actually the RHS?

No I didn't @willow, that explains the high prices then, I'm a member of the RHS but never buy any plants from their catalogues/leaflets etc. as they always seem expensive.

Their websites look very much alike too. I was a member of the RHS for a long time but now spend what I spent on membership on plants!
