We have cats and lilies. I just remove the stamen with the pollen. the flowers last longer in any case and it is the pollen which is the major problem for felines.

I used to do that as well when we had our cat especially on the lilies which I knew she used to sit near.

Its not just that but Maureen is not a fan as she associates lilies with funerals so no lilies. Way back in the day I was close to getting married to a Lily but that's another story

Ok, not really lilies but one clump of arum lily is flowering.....now, that has funereal links but I love it. couldnt be without lilies in the garden; love the fresh foliage apart from the flowers

I always grew lilies, and had a big Arum lily but the cats never got affected by them. However, I won't grow them now just in case ... They're probably in other gardens near by though.

You know, given the amount of poisonous stuff we grow in our gardens, it's amazing there isn't a trail of dead pets everywhere. I know it's the pollen with lilies - I'm always v careful when I'm given a bunch, as our cats are mostly indoors. But honestly the cats will chew on ANY green leaf - the old black one was eating chrysanth leaves indoor today. She'll also chew alstromeria, and has tried pretty much any foliage in the house and garden. And a lot of plants are toxic. But she's only ever sick from eating grass? I know of one lady who chopped the foxgloves down in her garden, she was that worried the cat would eat it, but I think they must be pretty tough... or able to tell.

I keep a Cyperus (Umbrella Grass) on the kitchen floor for Bella to chew. It's a grass so she's all right to eat it. You must guess it doesn't get very big !
I bought a Dicentra in Wilko today since the ones I had in the garden seem to have died away. I had several, both pink and white but they have all suddenly disappeared.
I also bought some seeds - Thyme, Coleus, Delphiniums.

Eli, dont give up on your dicentras.....they always look dead right now but suddenly make growth and flower Thank you VC but they didn't come back last year, except for one, which was small and weedy. I don't know what's happened to them. I don't think slugs eat them.
I hope your Snowdrops do well. I always buy them in the green.

re pets eating plants. We used to have a big schefflera plant in the porch and our guinea pigs which had the run of the house would manage to scale the large pot and eat all the lower leaves. Funny thing too, the cats never bothered either the guinea pigs or the hamster. as for humans and plants, my dad used to always have either some grass stems or bit of privet in his mouth when he was in the garden. probably other stuff as well.
