That is bad Eli the council should get it sorted for you straight away.. We've had this problem here too where our streets are narrow, I hope you can get it sorted quickly. Is there any way you can tape some thick polythene over the window so you can use the car (I've seen this done on other cars)

That is bad Eli, take photos of the damage & attach them to another email if you didn't already send them & tell them how much you & Beryl rely on the car due to disabilities etc. If the glass does look like it's going to fall out I'd do as grindle suggests & take it out & cover the hole with plastic if possible. I think the binmen in our street are excellent drivers, it's a narrow cul-de-sac & people park along the road on both sides as they have so many cars (we only have one & it's on the drive), the bin truck reverses back into the road at normal speed & so far hasn't hit anything (fingers crossed).

Thank you SueA, I will have to look for some thick tape which I have in the shed tomorrow. I've found my camera and I'll send them the photos on Monday, but I am going to tell them I'll take the car to my local garage to be mended and send them the bill. It's their fault so they will have to pay it.
I haven't had time to do much today because I had to call the doctor for Beryl this morning. She suddenly became unwell and looking very pale and distressed, and she had become confused and a bit delirious. A doctor called this afternoon and said she had a skin infection, and he gave her some antibiotics. Hopefully she'll be better tomorrow.
It never rains etc … my car also has a flat battery now and won't start, so I can't use it anyway. I have a charger and will have to fix it up tomorrow. The rest of my Fuchsias are still waiting to be put in the shed - one day next week ?? I hope

Thank you grindle lesley SueA the antibiotics will take effect soon and then I hope she'll be better.
A neighbour is going to take me to the town this afternoon to do some shopping. It's surprising how quickly you run out of things.

You may have a fight on your hands Eli as it is usually very difficult to get any recompense for that sort of thing from public bodies such as councils, Post office, bus companies etc. Having said that, its not impossible though. Do check with Citizens Advice Bureau and you may well get a free solicitor to help. Good luck.

Thank you all for your support
Well sweetpea they won't be able to dispute it, the refuse men knocked the door and told me about it themselves. The council will have to pay and that's that. Thanks for the advice about the Citizens Advice. I will look into it

Eli I have reason to believe sweetpea as I have seen first hand how my daughter-in-law could not get any acknowledgement at all for the state of the footpath and her fall. She now has bent fingers, which has forced her to sell her precious violin. The council have fixed the footpath, but there was nothing for my daughter-in-law. The council will check parking laws, etc to look for an excuse I hope your faith in your council works for you. I really do!

I'm sorry to hear of what happened to your daughter in law Cherry. Councils are so unfeeling and inhuman.
I sent a nasty email to ours this morning, telling them how disgusted I am with them and how hopeless they are. I pointed out that it was THEIR lorry which damaged my car when it was parked outside my house, and that it is their responsibility to mend it. I told them I was feeling very angry, and that the car is adapted for Beryl's wheelchair. She will be unable to go for any appointments etc until it is mended. I told them to "GET IT SEEN TO ASAP !!" Then I had two phone calls from them asking about the damage and what my address was etc (eventhough I had put all that in my emails) and they assured me it would be seen to urgently. However they did say their forms would have to go through a procedure, to which I answered "I don't care about your procedure. We need the car fixed NOW" They said they'd see what they could do ... so we'll wait and see
