I’m not very clever Eli, and I am reading music as it applies to the choir. I am really relying on it now, so I must be doing OK. It will keep my brain active anyway. How lovely to be able to play the piano. My son in Scotland plays the bagpipes, and Moira in Australia has a beautiful electric piano. It is the only sort you get in that hot, humid climate. She plays often.

The bagpipes ! I should think that's a difficult thing to play.

I’m sorry about your bird problem lesley. I used to get upset when the squirrels raided my bird feeders. Seagulls are quite clever.

I answered a soft knock on the front door and there stood a very cold Chinese (I swear illegal) woman in her forties with very bad English. I invited her in for tea and she had a second cup which she asked for, but started making with the used teabag. She loved the black Earl Grey, which was the nearest to Chinese tea which I could make. She stayed in peace for an hour before leaving for the street again, but I was worried about her. She wanted a bed for the night, but my house is full up with family and I would be worried about someone staying who I don’t know and doesn’t know the language. She insisted on ‘no police’ when I offered to phone them and said she had a passport, but I still think she was an illegal immigrant. She didn’t even know this town and said she came by train. No, that wasn’t so. Who would get off here looking for accommodation and the station is nearly a mile away. Anyway Geoffrey arrived home and I took something to the bin which had been taken to the front for emptying next morning, and Helen (know her name now) leapt across the road, asking for just one night. I didn’t have her here, but phoned the police earlier and they did not want to know. I tried The Salvation Army, but couldn’t get an answer to my call. Churches don’t list their number, but now I have been told to ring Shelter if it happens again. I think she was dropped off on the A10 which is close. Geoffrey saw and heard her and said the same thing. She was pleasant and not a criminal. Yes, I think I am right and she was illegally here.

I don't know what to think about that Cherry, I don't think I would have invited an unknown person into this house. You don't know who they really are, they could be just acting (I always tend to think the worst) but it's good that you gave her a cup of tea. Is it wrong to help an illegal immigrant or not to report them ? I don't know …

I would be very careful of letting anyone you don't know into your house Cherry especially if you were on your own. The woman could have been trafficked into the country to work on one of the farms in your area & maybe ran away from a forced labour gang, there have been cases around here of Vietnamese people being forced to work growing cannabis plants in abandoned or rented houses & Chinese women being forced to work in nail bars during the day & prostitution during the night. It was very kind of you to try to help her but she probably needs professional help from a women's aid group/Shelter/Salvation Army.

Well, here I am in freezing Bonnie Scotland. The trains were packed, but I had a seat reservation. The views were beautiful and so was the sunset, very early. I had forgotten just how hard the frost and ice is here.
