re-potted tomatoes and peppers so that they are almost in their final pots. Other wise nothing else too cold due the bitter wind.

I potted up some jumbo plug plants, petunias, chrysanths, rudbeckia & sunpatiens, which came from a Suttons special offer, in the greenhouse. Sadly something has predated the 4 baby blackbirds from the nest in the log store, may have been magpies or a squirrel as they had carefully picked them out but left one behind, maybe I disturbed them this morning as I saw a squirrel running along the fence & the magpies are always hanging around.

I didn't get to do any gardening yesterday &, except for some watering, I won't be doing any today either 😕 Yesterday we went to the thanksgiving service for my friend from church. He was buried in the morning & the service was in the afternoon.
Today we have to go to a hospital in another town for my wife's appointment at the eye clinic and will be out most of the day.

More reshuffling in the greenhouse to make room for all the extra seedlings that have now graduated to their rightful place in there before hardening off begins.....that took most of the morning!!
Fed all the Strawberry plants.

As expected, I didn't do anything else other than watering the plants on the balcony as well as indoors.
We didn't get back home till 7pm from the hospital.
Perhaps tomorrow, as the weather looks to remain warm for a couple of days, I may be able to pot up the Carnation seedlings that are desperate to be repotted.

I've been able to spend a couple of hours on the balcony today! Not done anything spectacular, just did some watering & deadheading as well as emptying out the majority of the hanging baskets. The compost is several years old I wanted to get rid of it. I emptied the compost into a big raffia bag which I then took to the empty planters around the cash machine & emptied it there; it took me two trips. Then I put a Geranium, still in its pot, in each of the baskets. I don't want to put anything more permanent in them for the present as during the next few weeks I will get some plants to put in them.
I also took out some of the Geraniums that have been in the kitchen window since about October & put them on the balcony. As they haven't had any direct sunlight for more than 6 months I tried to put them somewhere on the balcony out of the direct sunlight. I don't want them to get sunburnt! That's quite a tall order as at this time of the year the sun enters the balcony & there is no real shade - only what other plants cause & that's very little.
I took a few cuttings from the Geraniums before putting them on the balcony. I also had one Fuchsia in the kitchen window as well. I took a few cutting & put them in water; this year I seem to have difficulty rooting cuttings! Lots of Geranium cuttings that normally root very easily have died on me. I don't have a single cutting of a variegated Geranium called 'Chocolate' that has rooted, even though I took at least a dozen!
I spent an hour on the balcony during the afternoon & tidied up the Primroses, deadheading & removing dead or dying leaves. I also spent quite a bit of that time just trying to remove the dead & dry twining stems of last year's 'Morning Glory' climbers from the chicken wire that covers the lower half of the balcony railings. It quite a difficult job & very slow. I've still got to go outside & finish removing what I couldn't reach from inside. I may finish that job tomorrow, depending on the weather. At the end of the month I will tie new strings for them to climb up another year!

Trying to work out why nothing grows in the middle of a patch at the bottom of the garden. Dug out 4 compost bags full of what I think is old lime mortar. I did try putting some vinegar on it to test, but it did not fizz so perhaps not lime. No wonder nothing grows there. Trouble it that there is a lot more of it so I will have to remove the plants which are growing and have a really good dig after I have been to the Tip.
