I've nothing outside today, very low energy day but yesterday I began putting some plants into the bottom bed that I dug over a few days ago.

Just picked 50 or so kilos of Queen Cox apples. Was going to pick the Ashmeads and Court Pendu Plat as well, but it is raining rather hard now.

Spent much of the day picking Cats Head apples. A Heritage variety which make the most wonderful Baked apples. Done perhaps a fifth of the tree and got well over 60 kilos so far. Also cut the grass.

I've just about reached the time of the year where there's not enough light to do anything in an evening when I come home, so most of my remaining gardening this year will be restricted to the weekends. I did re-seed a few patches on the lawn the weekend before last, and it's starting to green up now. Last weekend was just taking the beans down on the vegetable plot. Next job now will be to give it a dig over, and it will be just about ready for winter. Lots of weeding to do on the flower beds though, so roll on the weekend!

I picked the last 2 mini cucumbers off the plants in the greenhouse (& then pulled them out - looking a bit mildewed) & some tomatoes along with a Cox's Orange Pippin apple which had dropped off the tree & a couple of the last purple spring onions to make a salad. Baked some blueberry scones in the afternoon, not my blueberries though I had to buy some.

Managed to plant out all we'd bought at the weekend & mow the lawn before the rain started yesterday. Found 8 acorns buried by the squirrel in a bag I'd grown potatoes in when I was emptying it & a jay flew past my head & into the ivy tree with an acorn it had just found.

The only thing I did was go around tying up/propping up things which had blown over in the wind the other night, very wet down at the end of the garden again.

Yay!!!!...finished painting the fence thismorning started clearing one of the small beds so my (heavy jobs) gardener can come and dig out the broken trellis...jobs like that are too heavy for us these days... one of the penalties of old age!!
