The ground is frozen hard. I went to check on my fuchsias in the shelter. They are frozen hard. Probably all dead.

I booked today and tomorrow off work some time ago. It was just as good in terms of the cold, but the snow was not as billed, given it's dry snow and not accumulating in the same way as the usual wet snow we experience in the UK. It's drifting around much like sand does. There's nought to do in the garden except wait for the snow to clear enough to put out more bird food, so they are able to see it.

that's a shame Eli but you never know they might survive just the birds again, even Dylan didn't want to go out yesterday afternoon

Don't blame him grindle! I'm sure lots of my plants are dead but I'm just going to try watering some of the pots etc. when the wind drops a bit, only ventured out myself to feed the birds a few times & keep taking the solid blocks of ice out of the water bowls & refilling them. There was a bird clinging to the gutter on the greenhouse yesterday, it looked like some sort of thrush, maybe a fieldfare, that had been blown about by the wind & it seemed to be trying to drink from the gutter, flew off after a minute or so, not sure if it was in the direction it wanted to go though! We don't usually get thrushes in the garden but I think more birds are struggling & coming to gardens in this weather.

I checked on my Fuchsias in the shelter. The pots are frozen solid but after scratching a bit of the bark the stems are nice and green inside, so hopefully they'll be all right.

just been to feed the birds again today and a corner of the pond and the bird bath have thawed, so that's one less job to do

I see we don't have a 'flowers and foliage in March' thread yet, or I'd probably be putting this on it... best I can do right now lol. These windmills keep the birds off my strawberry bed in nicer weather... brrrrr. We have had a lot more snow since I took this at lunchtime (Leominster, Herefordshire) I feel bad because I can't keep up with the birds' food and water - as soon as I put anything out, it gets covered in snow, or frozen solid.

Apart from a few spots, the snow has gone. Checked plants out there.....a lot of tender stuff outside. Feeling cold. No work innthe garden today. Tithonia growing well and ready for potting on but worth delaying for a couple of days.

I went out in the gales yesterday to collect logs for the logburner a couple of times & then decided to try & water some of the pots & the hanging baskets as they were all bone dry & frozen solid, I used warm water but half the time the water blew out of the watering can sideways in the wind & missed the pots altogether! The pond is frozen solid & the ball I float in it was nowhere to be seen so I carefully poured warm water where I thought it was until it bobbed into view, hope the frogs are O.K. if they're in there. Took the ice out of the bird bowls & filled them with slightly warm water & topped up their food a few times.

That looks pretty thick Bess, are your strawberries still under there somewhere?

Feeding the birds is the only thing I've done, or will be doing in the garden today. The rest of the lawn and garden is still covered with a blanket of snow.

Really sweetpea ? .. I'm surprised to hear that . We hardly had any snow, and the little bit we did have has now all gone.

It is starting to go now as it is raining and a lot less cold. just makes everything all yucky. Still plenty ice on the ponds and water containers though.
