Eight weeks ago I sowed some Snow Gum (Eucalyptus niphophila) seeds with the seed tray inside a plastic bag and put into the fridge for what is called cold stratification. Seems to have worked! ;D

I had to do the same Steve with some rose seeds, a friend had bought them with the cert to name one etc for her mother, they needed a spell of cold and even then took about 6 months to germinate! 2 years later I have just given them back to her about a foot tall ;D

I had forgotten i had sown some Primula Vulgaris last autum, i was out the back and i saw a tray with seedlings in it, when i looked, they had germinated too, so that was a nice suprise.
Hope your seedlings grow on well Steve, you clever person ;D

I'm well impressed - I wouldn't be allowed to put seeds in the fridge.

How it can be possible to keep seeds in fridge. I am really surprised about this activity which i heard first time. I think it is innovative concept of seed stratification to grow better.

Seeds store much better at lower temps, but for cold strat, i put seeds in compost in a wee seed tray and put them on the bottom shelf of the fridge, some seeds need to 'experience' winter coldness to make them germinate so thats where the fridge comes in very handy actually it's about time i took mine out of there
