peony they really are hanging on aren't they? My autumn flowering A. carmichaelii is showing colour and just when I think it will be too late because the frost is nearly here, they come out in full bloom. I will take a picture when they are out. [/font] I'll look forward to that Cherry

I must clamber across to the back of my wide border and see if mine are in flower - I think they will be, but I didn't stake them this year so they're probably lying flat! I inherited them - I wish they were more 'visible'. This is a little shrub I planted in the wall border as its flowering time is so late, but I'm not all that impressed with it. It's called Elsholzia stauntonii. online photo storageHere's the new rose ('The Countryman') I bought as a centrepiece for the new-look Osteo bed (once it'd been dug over!)It's still in its pot at the moment. photo hosting sitesHakenechloa macra 'Alboaurea' taken close-up to see the lovely leaves. screenshot captor

The Elsholzia looks fine, but the leaves could resemble those of Kerria which I don't like much. The Hakenechloa is fabulous. It is quite expensive, so I have had it on a wish list for years.

My newly planted Clematis Rebecca ( planted and cut back two months ago as several were broken) produced some shoots and a couple of flowers. One was eaten by a great yarking snail, this is the other.

Can't wait to see how she does next year. Should be stunning when in full flow. Best red apparently too.

My Schizostylis is just coming into it's own now. It'll go on right through into November too. Wish I hadn't given mum the pale pink and red one now! I'll have to get some back off her!!! Why on earth did I give them away? Just really starting to go. Look at all the spikes not even open yet! Fantastic perennial for autumn without a doubt and has been great every year (six years or so) since planted.

Fractal I really like C.'Rebecca' and I hope Lou78W's came up again because hers disappeared. That is a perfect flower. I love Schizostylus too, but mine did not like our extended winter. I will try it again. Gosh you're good Tel. I could not remember what it was, but I really liked it and yours is beautiful. I had to let mine go when I went on my big holiday last year.

I like your Schizostylus Fractal. Mine didn't want to live in my new garden after I moved, and died away. It's nice to see things coming into flower now, instead of dying off

I've tried Schizostylis in my garden, too, but the only one that comes up every year is S. major. Such a shame - they're lovely plants. @hywel, I do like your pillar! It's a real focal point in your garden.

I wonder what the reason for the poor flowering was Lou? The flower is such a clear plain red, that the beauty is all in the colour. I have just bought a Dipladenia for a friend which looks a similar colour. Moira grows the Mandevilla (same I think) up the trunk of her coconut palm.
