Took some photos of the irises out in the garden now, I found one of the Katherine Hodgkin flowers lying on the ground, I had the same problem at the other house too, not sure if it's snails/slugs or birds as the flowers are open & just snapped off at the top of the stalk. Katherine Hodgkin Cantab Gordon

Sue, could the pest be cutworm?

I suppose it could be daitheplant , for some reason they only seem to go for 'Katherine Hodgkin', not a big enough problem to worry about though, it's only the odd one or two.

If the stems are cut at soil level I would think it is. But why just the one variety? Hmm, I shall give it some thought.lol

pretty iris Sue, shame about Katherine though, I keep promising myself some and every year I forget, maybe if I tie a knot in trowel I might remember

Love those iris SueA I have loads of purple bearded one's. They are not looking so great this year so far. Think they need lifting and dividing. Need to wait and see.

SueA, I love seeing the dwarf irises coming back. I read somewhere that the histrioides ones last longer than the reticulatas. I suspect that might be true because I had a lot of 'Harmony' in the back garden which have diminished over the years. So far, so good in my flood wall - all the histrioides have flowered again. I used to have 'Cantab', which is my favourite reticulata, but it hasn't come back yet.

I might get some bearded irises again Raymond when I get the garden sorted out properly. Geranium I think all the dwarf irises are a bit hit & miss in coming up again aren't they, I had a look around at our old house & can't see any out there yet even though I have planted them in the past.

Meant to post these pics on Wednesday as they were taken at the Newport garden. Camellia and heathers. The scent from this sarcococca is stunning and welcome at this time of year. It`s a plant everyone should have in their garden.

Lovely pictures daitheplant the camelia in my front garden not looking to well. Plenty of buds but a lot of yellow leaves. It needs a damn good mulche and feed And iron determined to get it healthy . Has been choked to death by other shrubs which will be getting dug up. I like the sarcococca . How big does it get ? Shade or Sun ?

Give your Camellia a dose of sequestrene Ray,that should sort it. Sarcococca only grows about 2` 6" to 3` tall and will take full sun or light shade. As an evergreen, winter flowering plant it will take just about anything the weather can chuck at it.
