After seeing the title, I was going to say 'anything bonsai', but see it is a serious thread, and I don't know much about trees, except the fact that I like everything to be edible, so I'd plump for some apples on M28 rootstock

I suppose one of the most 'Columnar' trees would be juniperus Virginiana 'Skyrocket' very neat and tidy. I like the others mentioned too.

I like the Prunus Amanagowa too but love the Rowan. I think it would be of interest from spring to late autumm and it would support wild life.

I already have the Prunus Amanagowa in a pot, and common sense should tell me to use that and plant it in the ground......but......I would love the Rowan....sigh....decisions...decisions.....

Dig out a hole. put the Prunus pot in it, and see if you like it there. If you do, you've saved money, and if you don't, you've crossed one option off the list.

The Prunus A is quite a tall tree and can get quite wide. I haven't seen that variety of Rowan growing, but they are never boring as cherries are. I left my Rowan behind with miscletoe established on it. It is easy to 'take' on the rowan, so buy your rowan, and ask the same person for miscletoe berries. It is a good time and the time I did it.
