I had to lift mine before they fell over......the roots were starting to rot......they are in the greenhouse drying out....been there a couple of weeks. They will be chopped and frozen, as I don't think they will carry me through till January....

I wouldn`t grow any members of the onion family in that area for a few years.

That sounds like bad news Daitheplant. How can you tell if your onions have white rot ? (without uprooting them)

If you just leave them Roofy they will just fail and you will be left with nothing edible. If you think they have problems, pull one or two and check.

In the tunnel this morning I planted some The Sutton broad beans hoping for an Autumn picking. Tidied a few things and did the watering. Sowed seeds of Genista which I`d harvested from a clients garden. I obtained a seed head from a Phoenix canariensis from the same garden, The pods are just starting to burst, so hope to have seed from them to sow on the weekend.

Just tipped out some of my 17 litre potato bags. Blue belle and Casablanca. Made a few 'sets' of 5 to be left dirty until just before showing. The ones that didn't make the beauty contest will be eaten! Tied up lots of Dahlias and some disbudding/cutting off tired blooms. peeled a few cracked skins off my Jermor shallots ready for re-tying the necks. Always something to do on the plot as you know! Here's a pic, in the left foreground you'll see my Chilli Cayennes growing happily outdoors, have a couple of dozen plants.

What's the structure in the background ? (with the corrugated roof) ? If thats storage, then I am DEAD envious !

What a lovely garden Davidv. What's the structure in the background ? (with the corrugated roof) ? If thats storage, then I am DEAD envious ! Roofie it is indeed my shed. I built it a few years back from reclaimed materials on the footprint of an ancient wood and glass greenhouse. Theres no windows but a translucent fibreglass sheet roof lets plenty of light in. The panels you see are 4" thick insulated and white on the inside (reflected light) It's all bolted together and galvanised (made by me) cappings seal the joints. Cost me a few tubes of silicone, a few fixings and welding rods. Catches loads of rainwater too. Here's a pic just after completion, gutters now on.
