I am all in favour of recycling Dave. After work I called into the site. Watered things in the polytunnel and greenhouse. Filled the birdfeeders. Then put a few plants out for sale ready for Saturdays AGM. After picking another carrier bag of Runner beans I came home to rest.

As site manager on our plots I seem to get all the maintainance jobs! Sadly no willing or even unwilling assistants today. Fixed the roof on our community hut. The felt had perished where it wraps over just above both gutters. The wood T & G roof was exposed. I knifed it back clean a few inches then slipped a wide, 10 foot long strip of new felt under both sides, tacked on, beads replaced, job done. Done some disbudding on emerging second flush Dahlias, hoping to have some for Next week but forecast not great! Need to mark up the better Dahlias to keep for next year. We have a marrow contest on our site, weigh in this week. I got some seed off ebay, a large strain. I grow the plants, everyone chooses one and biggest wins the trophy. I have a couple of 25/30 pounders but Vinny the Plumber has potentially a 50 pounder, maybe next year!

Can`t you get any of the committee members to help you Dave? Having said that, we don`t get too many volunteers on our site at the moment, either.

Well yesterday in the allotment! We did the weigh in for our annual marrow contest. Vinny won with 51 pounds, I was third with 34 pounds. All for fun and a silver trophy to put on the mantelpiece!

The one on the right looks like one of my cucumbers David. Hahaha you must have monster cucumbers in South Wales then Dai! Think I can beat 51 pounds next time though, grew mine under my fruit trees as no other space available. They don't like shade or cold winds. Plus we have plenty of seed available now for next years plants of a large strain, Anybody wanting seeds from the winner let me know. Cucumbers! Nearly got a hernia getting it on the scale!

I am all in favour of recycling Dave. ... That seems a bit harsh on Dave ? I really apologise, Roofus, for missing out a comma after the word "recycling".

Is there such a flower as a "Pedantica" ? Apologies Daitheplant... I just had this mental image of forum members being recycled, with the local councils setting out special recycling bins, like garden waste bins. It had me chuckling.

As long as you chuckled I don`t mind too much about you being a pedant.

Shouldn't there really be a comma between the introductory element and the declamatory clause ? (e.g. after "chuckled") ?

I'm not quite ready for recycling just yet Roofus. Hopefully got another 30 years in me. Salford council provide 4 wheelie bins: General, Paper, Glass and tins, and garden waste. The latter goes for shredding and composting so that's probably the one to chuck me in! There is indeed a Pedantica Grandifolius and there's probably one on your roof!

Hmmm... I can't find anything on google for "Pedantica Grandifolius"; is there an alternative spelling ?

Wet day down at the plot, not a soul around. Did what jobs I could do undercover. Gave the shed a good tidy up with the rain bouncing off the roof. Picked probably the last of the tomatoes in the big greenhouse. Filled the small greenhouse after its annual wash inside and out, sparkling and stinking of Jeyes now! Hope my Fuchsias survive in there, Hobsons choice really. Here's a few pics, called it a day early.
This the 'After' caption, not the 'Before'!
End of the tomato crop. And some potted up Aloe versa
All my Fuchsias
Super late Dahlias, Gourds and Kol Rabi.
