I still use claggy and clarts for mud. especially sticky mud when it sticks to your shoes.

Floydie, i've heard Americans pronounce it 'darlia' They often pronounce a short a vowel that way - think of the way they pronounce pasta .... it's an Italian short vowel sound but they do the long 'a' again, making it 'parsta' which is just *****y ridiculous Too much American influence about me thinks . Except for some colourful sayings, I don't think our language skills in Australia are too bad. I remember Coronation Street being dubbed into English, but that does not get done the other way around. This is bound to cause some comments.

I was browsing the posts for a different query and, unbelievably, up popped a question which I can answer!
"Honeoye" is a Native American name (I'm in Wisconsin, USA). It's pronounced "hoo-NAY-ooo-way".
Some people say "HOO-nay-oye" (as in "oye veh!") ... that's not exactly right but everyone knows what they mean. However you say it, the strawberry is delicious!
