can you move a 2 year old plant? I planted, I thought Hidcote (well that's what the label said) in mum's front garden, but they've turned out to look more like Angustifolia, far too big for what she wants, so will have to be dug out, I wondered if it was worth trying to replant them or just ditch them

As long as it was well watered before and after replanting and you had a good rootballl, i don't see why it wouldn't move Grindle. Lavender has just the best smell, it's lovely stuff ;D

I'd go for it, too, Grindle. You have nothing to lose, after all!

What is the best method for lavender cuttings? I have tried taking cuttings but they die off. Any tips please ?

I haven't taken lavender cuttings for years libralady but remember sometimes they were a bit hit & miss, some would take & some wouldn't. I just used to take cuttings about 3 or 4 inches long without flowers on them, take off the bottom leaves & poke them around the edge of a small pot filled with compost mixed with whatever I had, a bit of grit, vermiculite etc., water, cover with a plastic bag & then leave on the kitchen windowsill & cross my fingers!

Thanks Sue, that's the method I used. First lot withered and died. Second lot I am hoping may work.

Never having bothered with lavender cuttings before, I took some on 29th Sept and put them in a mixture of compost and perlite. Similar method to SueA but in g'house. Checked today and I think they are just starting to root but will wait a while yet until I see roots through the drainage holes.
