Hi Moonlight I've been taking seed for a few years now, and year dads right about germination if you cross with a brush it's about 10% , one of my friends waits till pollen is ripe , then makes cross first thing in a morning before insects are about and he has very good results all done with a brush. 3 years ago I put some plants I wanted to cross close together and let the bees do the work for me, had great germination about 80% ,350 plants 90 % doubles Which I picked 22 out and I grow last year and out of them am down to 5 to trail this year. This years seed was crossed with the brush will be interesting to see what germinations like.

The first two Collarette seedlings are through, one in one tray and one in another, will see how many more germinate over the next 10 days, before deciding if I need to sow any more.

a nice medium cactus ian I would love to see a new one come through. Only really raisers pride available to show And hillcrest royal for display . Not an entry in harrogate last year I noticed. Lots of medium semi cactus but I do like cactus. Ac Abby I am going to try a couple of (if I can root the cuttings !) is a medium cactus from USA. There is the odd one like hollyhill firelight available from station house. Shame there is not more available to choose from. A medium on the lines of kiwi Gloria or trelyn kiwi would be something I would personally love to try growing .

Have taken about 30 cuttings off my yellow cactus seedling from last year. No idea what the blooms will be like, but if you want a dahlia that makes a good tuber and throws up bucket loads of cuttings, this one will be unbeatable
