Oh what a beautiful morning (now there's a song somewhere) lots more Dahlias ready for potting up. I have taken most of the cuttings now just the slow ones now a batch of Jersie to take waiting for Oakwood and a few Michelle to top as they will be far too big. Iam sure we will have to fit some shopping in at some stage.

Well Dianthus I do not know what your smutty mind is telling you. Moonlight was talking about not sowing her ball dahlia seeds. I really don't know what you were thinking. Tut tut. He he I'll explain that another time. Having am early night. As threatened / promised I'll explain the ball saga because ian has made an interesting point in his post about my balls.(Trying to think of a sensitive way to put this but can't think of a better way) Sooner or later varieties are classified by specific categories. Most of the time this works ok and occasionally the decision is made to re-classify them but pretty much once they have been classified then that's it. Mary's / Jomanda are classified as ball dahlias and do really well in the shows. My Dad is a former nds judge and he gets really frustrated because the Mary's / Jomanda beat dahlias that are ball dahlias but they themselves are more like a Dec than a true Ball dahlia. (Obviously different people have their own opinions but that is ours).
OK, boring bit over, this is my favourite bit...
Dianthus, She is just showing off because she knows I cant even get one emoticon up never mind that lot. PS I think she is right leaving her balls out (didn't know she had them) but Moonlight knows best He he Ian is one of the top judges in the country. I have every faith in the fact that the best Ball dahlia on the bench would win in classes that he judges in. I just wish that my experiences of the shows that I have been to, would lead me to the confidence to show the best ball dahlias from my garden, rather than choose the most popular and successful to Mary's / Jomanda just because I want a chance of wining, Red Balloon has a good ball dahlia petal formation but doesn't win. That's why I haven't rushed to sow those seeds and why I have been so keen to try other varieties this year.
One of my ball dahlia seeds produced a dec dahlia seedling that I am keeping for this year. I wonder what will happen with my dec dahlia seeds - I wonder what they will throw up but lets hope that I get some seeds to germinate to begin with. Tiny steps, hopefully in the right direction.
Like Ian said, we just can't work out why he can't add emoticons to his posts.
p.s. It is highly likely that I will change my mind on whether or not to sow those seeds, especially if my other seeds don't germinate.

Have moved my seedlings to the plastic greenhouse in my porchway. Worried they would get too warm in the conservatory.
They look happy, so far.

mine been out all day and it was a scorcher. Gave them a water as looking rather dry and back in tonight.
Looks like night temp going to be a bit better soon so they will be outside a night soon in mini greenhouse.

Our forecaster in Wales said there will be an Arctic blast arriving from Friday onwards, with a 10C drop in day time temps.

Lost one of my 30 seedlings overnight. It just rotted mid stem, so probably knocked it when watering
