I found this dahlia seedling growing in the garden. I did not plant it there, the only thing i can think off is that the seed was in the compost i brought from the allotment. Maybe this could turn out to be the best of my seedlings. ;D This seedling is going to be a Decorative It should be fully out at the weekend. The colour is the same as the first dahlia i bought 20 years ago Barbarry Pinky, it could be a seedling from it.Will post a pic of it when it is fully out. I was really sure it was the same colour as Barbarry Pinky, i was beginning to wonder if it really was a seedling, or some how a small piece of tuber with a eye had survived in the compost from the allotment. I had a Barbarry Pinky in bloom in a 5in pot on the allotment, the bloom of pinky in the pot is smaller than it should be, but that would still give me a comparison in colour with the plant in the garden. After placing them side by side i and Brenda agreed the seedling is slightly darker than pinky to the naked eye, but i do not think it is noticable in this pic. The seedling is the bigger bloom on the left, just waiting now to see if it has a good centre.

Time will tell Tel........eh I have my fingers crossed Lou, if the centre of the bloom is good, it should reach small dec size next year, then it would be worth trying it on the bench.

That yellow one has such a perfect centre - it's looking for a show to go to already!

Do you pinch out your seedlings, Tel, or just let them grow straight up to save space?

Do you pinch out your seedlings, Tel, or just let them grow straight up to save space? I let them grow straight up, planted about a 12in apart. if i try any of them a second season, i plant them 24in apart and stop them.
