I think foxes too. I noticed, here, yesterday a few little diggy holes in the grass and there are quite a few foxes around here so i think it's them. Your holes look very similar

No idea what the 'fatty' bits are. Maybe Tonka burried something and the fox got a whif. Try putting some of Tonka's poo down the hole, it may put it off.

it could be that the cubs are out and about now, and tend to do a lot of playing around, not that that helps in yourgarden, I take it that is the front

Foxes bury food and return to it, before now i've found mouldy part loaves of bread aswell as bird suet and fatballs ! My neighbour 2 doors up also found a wrapped bag of sliced (mouldy) bread buried in her garden.
There's been a marked decrease though since this region had its new refuse collections installed and wheelie bins provided - crows, magpies, seagulls and foxes are no longer spreading rubbish far and wide all over the place.

I just assumed that it was WF's garden, I can't imagine anything being brave enough to do that in Esther's garden Interesting spin on 'parcel post' Tel ;D I think I'm digging an even bigger hole for myself now, so I'll shut up !!

Did you notice that Esther has real grass in her garden? Not clover, dandelions, buttercups, speedwell - GRASS! ;D That's not badger damage, I know all too well what that looks like. I think 'fox' too.
