Has anyone tried a Drimys Lancelota 'red spice' ? I nearly bought it as all plants were half price. I did buy a 4' M. Soulangeana, a red Hydrangea, Penstemon 'Husker red' and a Ligularia £19.48

. I grow it. The leaves taste nice if you bite into it without eating it.

I have had one in the garden for a few years - it is just growing in the border - a lovely shrub

No need now Grindle, I'm hooked, If it's good enough for Esther's garden it'll do for me. And if it likes 'most soils' it's worth a go, especially at £6. I told P and she likes it too. I'll take her back there at the weekend, they have a nice garden seat too, perfect for the pond-side.

That is a lovely spring flowering shrub, just a shame our garden is too small we do not have room for one.

Tel the Lady at the GC said you could let it grow or cut it right back annually like a Cornus! I thought it odd but who knows.

Today I was walking along a road and saw what looked like this plant growing all along the side of a car park! The stems weren't as red but it looked very like 'Lancelota' though it was trimmed low.
