Thought you might be interested to see the latest additions to our family! Bertie (l) and Timmy (r) 3month old Marginated Tortoise hatchlings. My husband has wanted a tortoise since he was a kid and is a very happy boy. They're quite sweet if a bit fiddly - have to be bathed every day for now, which is why they're in their deluxe Wall's Vanilla spa tub. And a close up

Aww Bess they are so cute, lucky husband! I had a tortoise when I was little, we found it in the garden & nobody knew who it belonged too, we took it with us when we moved house & had it a few years & then one day it did a runner - yes a tortoise! It must have escaped under the hedge & we couldn't find it, I was so upset, it must have had wanderlust!

I've had them in the past too, first one escaped somewhere, never to be seen again, the second we found on a day out driving round the Kent lanes, after much door knocking we ended up taking it home, it then went to my cousin as I had no garden at the time. They are really sweet Bess

So many people have said to me (generally over the age of 45), 'oh yes, we had a tortoise when we were younger, but it vanished!' I mean, literally, at least 10 people. Including my Dad. You have to wonder what the heck happened to them all, and why the English countryside isn't littered with shells! I know they dig like anything (these little ones are like moles - my husband had to dig one up last night to bathe it!) so maybe that's how they all escape.

They are sweet when they're small aren't they ... We had them too (my brother and me) ... back in the 60s I had the bigger one because I was older !

All those escapees, they must move a lot faster than you think!

Oh dear - Henry started howling at 6.10 this morning and I let him out, but he's at it again. I shall try to ignore it until it's breakfast time! At least tortoises are quiet, Bess!

Henry howled on and off from just before 11 until midnight last night. This is getting a bit much! I am waiting for the banshee to start up again now...

This is most peculiar Geranium and I don't know what anyone can suggest. The 'supervet' who was on television last night would find something for about £5,000.

No, we are so far from any other houses that isn't possible, daitheplant. Good thought, though.I wish I knew what starts Henry off, but I suspect he likes being petted and wants more...I can't respond to every howl or I'd be encouraging him to do it even more frequently. Cherry, I am in awe of that vet and what he manages to do for those injured and ill animals. He's good with people, too. No wonder he's so successful.
