Does anyone know this clematis please? The flowers are very small Someone gave me a tiny seedling about 3 years ago and this is the first tme it has flowered - it isn't the clematis I thought it was going to be

That is a lot of leaf growth for a rather modest show of flowers Esther. Even the wild C. vitalba has its small flowers in bunches.

The only one I can come up with is Clematis recta - but that normally has lots of flowers! Sorry - no help at all.

not seen one like that before, I can't find anything on the net either, the only one that looks close is Clematis brachiata, but even that has more flowers on the stems

I think its pretty with its dainty flowers . Could you maybe grow another one into it so you get a more showery display too?? .

That is looking better and using Grindle's link, I agree that she has probably identified it. Now I see that the flowers are in bunches and not just on their own.
