It is 150 years ago this month that Queen Victoria visited Worsley where we live(I'm not old enough to remember it This afternoon there was a re-acting of the event and we went to watch. She arrived in a boat along the canal ,pulled by a horse(not a real one) then made a speach on the green.I am going to try and show you some pictures

That is a very docile horse. I suppose Queen Victoria must have got around in carriages. I have never thought about this. Was the canal arrival to give her an entrance of some importance?

My Gran (just celebrated her 100th birthday last Saturday) lived not too far from you Derek in Swinton and my great aunt lived even closer just off the Worsley road in Oaklands Road near the golf course! Small world

Thank you Derek and well done Worsley. My, haven't things changed but it's so nice to know that so many hold dear those days. I like the sun-umbrella with the gold painted base, pity they couldn't have found a proper horse though.

To answe Steve N yes it is a small world. We are only 2 miles from Swinton and we do a lot of our shopping there.Shopping in Walkden where we live is rubbish these days.We have a large Tesco but not much else.Worsley is in 2 halves separated by the A580.The south part which is where the canal is is the posh part. The north part where we live ,which is called Walkden is also where Carol Klein was born and brought up .She wouldn't recognise it today if she came back to look.

It's nice to see they had good weather for it Derek, 'Queen Victoria' looks as though she is a lot more 'amused' than the original!
