help guys, pleasae, i have client you has today noticed a whole bunch of quite large white things on his small magnolia tree, i have never seen anything like it, they are attached to the branches and to the underside of the leaves. They feel a bit like marshmellows, but i have no idea what they are. can anyone help urgently. Sorry not been around for a while but thats gardening for you

This sounds like cushion scale, which is found on many shrubs and heavy infestations blacken the foliage of camellia, rhododendron, trachelospermum, euonymus japonicus and holly. Notice I am listing evergreens, because they suffer the worst, but it has been seen on hydrangea in Norfolk not far from here. I can give a good description of the scale insects if you want more information, but you might be able to Google.
You would be looking for systemic insecticides containing thiacloprid (Provado Ultimate Bug Killer concentrate). There are others suitable. Thorough application to the underside of leaves is required.

I had these last year on loads of plants in the garden Provado got rid of them on the plants I was concerned about, the others I left. This year I have none.

i would say they looked like this, but on closer insection i think whatever they were have hatched. do you think i should spray with Provado then I had these last year on loads of plants in the garden Provado got rid of them on the plants I was concerned about, the others I left. This year I have none.

Probably need a photo for absolute id. I would spray with provado as said above just in case.
