I noticed half a dozen honey bees feeding on the honeysuckle today, a sure sign that spring is on its way.

They often come out this early, if the weather changes they go back into hybernation.
The photo surprised me, it's only taken with my little pocket camera. It was far more luck than skill.

That's good news, and lovely photo. I haven't seen any bees yet - but if you've got them, I expect I'll see some soon. ;D

I had the bee lady to visit today. The bees come out when it is fine to defecate and will go in for a long while if the weather turns nasty.

Someone on the allotments keeps bees, they were happy to tell us, they had survived the winter and were now flying about.

Does a cold winter kill bees? All i know is someone last winter, vandals more than likely, went on the allotments and removed the tops of the hives. When the owner went down, they were all dead in the hive's.

Probably the 'set all the animals free' brigade, they don't have a clue, the number of animals they 'free' to starve to death is frightening.
