We have been over run by rats this year on the allotments, first taking the strawberries now its the sweetcorn. The Town Council have had the pest control man out with bait, but the rats aren't taking it, he says there are too many other foods for them. Any suggestions for getting rid??!!Our tenancy agreement does not allow us to do pest control and the idea of indiscriminate poison going down is not something I want to do. I haven't seen any on my plot my sweet corn is very late and may not even come. I should see that as a blessing as I really don't like rats ugh!

If you can get some tin food grade oil cans (The ones restaurants/take aways use) and add food in that will be attractive to them, the rats will go in through the top and get stuck. Its up to you what you do with them then.

Most little terrier type dogs are very good ratters if you know anyone with one, but to be honest on sites as large as multiple allotments there is very little you can do to stop them coming in again
