I would think you've heard of the mining disaster in south west Wales. It's in a place about 20 miles from here. Some miners have lost their lives.
My grandfather was killed in a mining disaster when my dad was 21, and this disaster has happened in the same place.
The mine where my grandfather died was closed down a year or two later in the 1940s, - but this is a new mine opened recently on the same hillside.
It affected my dad and his family for the whole of their lives. Dad could never talk about his father without tears in his eyes, even until he died aged 88.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died here now, and all involved. It's going to remain with them for the rest of time.

When I visited this country the first time the Aberfan disaster happened in 1966. That is the price of coal.

It's rather poignant for me because it's happened in the same place as my grandfather was killed, and I remember the life long effect it had on all my dad's family I feel very sad for all concerned.

It is tragic isn't it, people with a family history like yours must really feel it Hywel. It's awful to think that men are still crawling into dangerous mines like that in this day & age & losing their lives.
