Hello, Bought a new shrub from garden centre early in spring to try and fill void left by one that died in last winters snow, made sure it was a hardy one, the dead one (can be seen to left of new shrub in photos) never came back and will remove next year. Kicking myself as been keeping all the tags of new plants but this one has escaped so not sure what it is. It has sent off many tall shoots and wandering if I should be cutting these back and if so when would be best time to do it as guessing it won't be a bushy shrub left as it is. Also any idea what it is ?! Any help greatly appreciated, Lawrence

I was wondering if it could be a cotoneaster??? Not 100% as i cannot make the leaf shape out very well.... Someone will know.

Do you know, I'm not so sure that this is a cotoneaster? The lack of branching along the primary shoots seems unusual for any Cotoneaster. I wonder if it could be one of the ornamental Vacciniums?

Meakins, could you post a macro shot of the foliage? Not sure about the above now as that website link has the wrong picture! I think they are calling a Berberis a Vaccinium! Shall I tell them?
