I'm thinking of buying a pressure washer. I borrowed a cheap one, it cleaned the car and weeded between the slabs on the yard. but not the slabs themselves. They are Yorkstone and there's a lot of them. In the winter they get slippy and are lethal ! I tried doing them but it would only work on 'fine' setting which would take a lifetime. Would a more expensive/powerful one do it quicker?

would it be worth hiring one? that way it would work out cheaper, and you could decide whether it would be worth buying one for the long term

That's a good idea G, I'd know for sure if it would do the trick then, thanks.

I've got a small, cheep one which isn't very powerful, it will clean dirt but not ingrained algae from slabs, unless I work on a square inch at a time. I have a huge petrol one which will blast everything off anything but it will also blast the grouting out from between the slabs.
The small one is good for garden furniture, the large one catapults it across the garden ;D

The Beatles sang a line, "It's a clean machine". I don't know what song it came from, but it will always make me laugh now.

A bit like a meat slicer, yes it's quicker than a knife but by the time you've cleaned it, it takes longer than the knife. From what you've said WF I recon that I would need something in between. One thing I don't like about the one I tried is that the cable is too short and water gets on the plug ! Also I'm concerned that if it has residual water in it, it may get frost damage. I'll call in at a hire place and ask them, they should know all the answers.

We have a Karcher pressure washer Merlin and it's a powerful spray but not as lethal as Sue's one ;D ;D Graham uses it to clean the wheel arches on the P6, he lent it to a friend at work, she used it for her slabs and they came up like new

Rosie, I agree with AJ, could you find out what the 'flow rate per minute' is for me? I priced my Yorkstone flags last week ....£70 a metre, I daren't say how many meters I have They are very old and smooth which is why the become slippy. The good thing is the colours, when clean they're lovely.

My one is a Karcher B102. I would have to search for the booklet (If I still have it0 to get the specs for you. However I have been more than happy with this one. Indeed when I used to work for someone who had a massive great pressure washer it outpeformed the big one. i have used it to clean driveways, patios, my roof, vehicles and garden furniture etc.. it did tend to strip the paint from decking though The trick is to use the correct nozzle for the application as that can make a big difference. I believe you can get this model fairly cheap now but I'm sure a search on the net would pay off.

The one I tried uses 360 l per hour Rosie so not a lot in it. Time is scarce lately but I'll make enquiries.
