They keep 'pushing' * electric cars because of their eco-friendliness, but their range is ridiculous! (*Literally! ;D)

Until they sort out battery charge by developing more efficient and larger capacity batteries I don't really see the point in them. The fact that the "eco friendly car" gets its charge from a power station in the first place.....

I suppose they must be cheaper to run, but I have no idea where there are re-charging points. Isn't the range only about 50 miles per charge? I also know that the dual-fuel ones, which might be an answer, are very expensive to buy, so I shall not be getting one!

The Gov is committed so I imagine you'll see charge points in car parks this year. I'm quite optimistic about them. For me, no good but for someone who commutes 40 miles to work every day, maybe.

The one thing I'm not sure about is how much energy it would take to heat it and clear the ice from the window.

I had a Ford Escort some years ago - with a heated windscreen. It was great! Really fast to clear the ice. I think all cars should have them. ;D
