Very interesting and something I have thought about a lot. I don't think I am too guilty of this misdemeanour because of my OCD where hygiene is concerned. I have often wondered if the detergent gets rid of all the germs. It would appear that it doesn't. I have to put dog blankets in my washing machine, so the machine does get a rinse through.

I always wash my towels, tea towels and Grahams hankies at 90o, undies at 50. I wouldn't think a 15 degree wash would be that clean personally

Everything goes in on No.3, I have no idea what No.3 is or what temperature it is. I'm a Graphic designer not a computer programmer

My machine hasn't got a 90 degree cycle on it anyway - 60 is the hottest.

There were times when serving in the RM when we had to wash, shave and clean teeth all from ONE mug of water. mostly in countries where hygiene was rather thin in the ground. We still managed to stay clean and more to the point....healthy. if you don't get the occasional bit of dirt inside you how can your immune system learn respond? let's face it, there are countless millions of bacteria/fungal spores etc. being breathed in with every breath you take and unless you do a wacko jacko style of living there is not much we can do about it.

That's exactly why some children get all the illnesses going - they're not allowed to get grubby! (Thanks, Steve, I'll give it a go... )

I agree, everything is far too clinical these days, makes you wonder how we all survived our childhood ;D
