During the Summer I made a large ottoman to house all the garden cushions. It's not absolutely insect-proof so I was wondering whether to put moth-balls in to help prevent them from being eaten over winter. Do you know where I could buy some?

I've spoken about this here before. Traditional mothballs no longer exist. I went to buy the usual ones i'd been buying for years, a couple of years ago, and was told that because of a certain chemical in them the EU had banned them - i don't know how true that is but that's what i was told by 2 shops that i'd been buying them from. It never stops does it, being dictated to by an idiot body You can use camphor (the best), sandalwood (next best) , aswell as lavender, pure essential oils and place material drenched in it in the drawer/wardrobe/box. This is the next best thing. You can also buy other versions along a similar theme - you definately get what you pay for though, the first two essential oils are the best but dearer.

You're right, Louise. It was at the same time that the 'ingredients' of Jeyes' fluid were changed. That lost its distictive smell, and no longer kept the badgers out - remember? Bloomin' EU!

Oh well I'll look out for camphor. I've just trimmed the last of my Lavs, should I scatter it around the box?

You could definately use it ..... perhaps trim the stalks from the flowers and put them into a fine cloth and sit it on the cushions, if it's too thick though the impact will be reduced. Maybe place the whole stems/flowers on paper, leave it 'open' and not enclosed and ontop of the boxes contents again.

Couldn't I just sprinkle the stalks over the cushions inside the box?
