The 'Powers that be' are so worried about Cherry's water shortage down there in the SE, that they're thinking of pumping water from Wales !! Make sure they pay for it Hywel, they've more money than you ;D Incredibly they're thinking of raising the levels of the Welsh lakes, tapping it off into the Severn, from there via canals into the Thames. Climate change and population growth are the reason. 'They' can't do a lot about 'climate change' and they seen to want to raise the birth rate (though not indigenous) No wonder they want us all to have a meter ! If Wales gets smart it could be the Dubai of the UK ;D

I think Norfolk is alright because we have the Bedford Levels which drain the fens and this water is siphoned off at Denver and sent to Essex. I expect Suffolk wants it. Norfolk has to build more reservoirs for the irrigation of farms. True Merlin. Scientists are very worried. We just do not get rain, and I think this small area must be the worst as we don't get it when Norwich do.
I don't think Wales would want to be like Dubai. Welsh Wales is rather nice.

There are problems of water supply for Hertfordshire too. We rely on rainwater to fill the aquifers and bore holes from where the water is pumped to our taps. We have had low rainfall this year too

A cuppa at MiL's is so so much nicer than here, it's soft and comes from the River whereas I recon ours comes from the cut !

The South West does seem to constantly wet. I may be wrong but if my memory serves me correctly, the prevailing winds used to be North Westerly. Over the last decade or two it's now South Westerly which protects us in Cheshire.

The railway between Downham Market and Ely, ie right past where I live, will be shut because the drought has caused the railway to slip.

we get our weather straight off the Atlantic, so if there's rain about we're sure to be hit with it. It would be nice if we could have a few weeks of dry though, I don't think I would like to be in drought conditions like you though Cherry

There are plenty of places in England they can drown - they can start with London !
