Does anyone NOT have a mobile phone? According to Stephen Fry, there are more phones than people! I have a very basic one (for emergencies) but am thinking of a 'proper' one. Phone boxes have almost gone, some homes don't have a landline and I recon whether we like it or not we'll all have one soon. G4 is out and a friend in the know tells me that 'voice recognition' is the next stage. You'll be able to ring your home and say, cooker on and the cooker will turn itself on and cook your dinner while you're on your way home. It will do many other things too, even useful things possibly. The way I see it, as with computers, you can't buck the trend and better to climb on board rather than be a 'Ludite' I'm so glad I decided to 'do digital' a few years ago and find it useful, social, educational, interesting and even fun! The best thing is that I still appreciate the real world of the Countryside and Compost. As a 'sado' with few friends, I'm not sure I need a phone contract, pay as ye go would do me. but all the other gismos are tempting.

I just have a basic 'pay as you go' Merlin which I find adequate for me, I don't text much, and have it switched off most of the time, I don't want people ringing me up when I'm shopping etc., but I know my son and daughter couldn't be without their 'all singing, all dancing' mobiles, they use them for work and use lots of the gizmos as well, I just couldn't be bothered. If the family want to get in touch they either ring on our landline or email me

I originally bought one for my OH so that she could have an emergency lifeline when she started driving longer distances. of course then you couldn't get a signal out in the sticks. I then had to get one for my work and even after moving to Wales I was getting calls from Surrey asking me to come and work in their gardens have since moved to pay as you go so much better now. just like Peony my OH leaves her's switched off or doesn't hear it when I have to ring her and most of the texts I get are for 'Dad's taxi'

I have just had a new battery put in my old Nokia. I did not want a new one as this does more than I need. However, I would not want to be without it. I now have to take business calls as my husband leaves his switched off. I text more than speak.
