Great pics. Bernie, we rarely see anything remotely as colourful over here but even a plain little brown sparrow has it's charms.

Sue, we do see colourful birds. We just have to look harder! They are often very small and not in such great numbers. I wonder if Bernie has a Ulysses butterfly to show you. These are big enough to look like birds and had me watching out for them. I suppose she could put it on either the wildlife or blog of her garden thread.

I have shown the picture of Sue's unusual bird to the rangers at Blackleach country park today. They are fairly sure it is a chiffchaff because they have heard of reports that some over winter in our country.Sue takes part in the Salford garden bird survey which I organise and she has recorded this bird on the survey form but she sent me an email saying she was not sure what it was .Well,I am going to record it as a chiffchaff. I have sent her an email to tell her

Thanks Derek. Word has obviously got round about your well stocked garden Sweetpea! ;D Is that a white dove flying down to join the pigeons?yes sue, it is a pure white pigeon and is one of the dominant ones here. It also has a ring on its leg as do two other regulars here. It really is a beautiful bird when seen close up. Besides the pigeons we get Herring gulls, black capped gulls, Crows, Magpies, Collared doves, Jackdaws, an occasional Jay, blackbirds, robins, Blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, sparrows Chaffinches, Bullfinch (though not lately). Yesterday saw red kite first time in a while but they don't come in the garden.

I don't think the pigeons etc. would like it if the red kite did come into the garden Sweetpea! ;D It looks as though you've got the best fed birds in Wales!

I've just had an email from the RSPB about the bird watch next weekend, do hope it's not doing this as all the birds have gone into hiding. Just as well I filled all the feeders yesterday mind you looking at them they look half empty.

The birds are going mad for their food here. I have just been out with a second scoop of porage oats for the ground feeders. They eat the grapes I sneak for them too.

Bucket of 50 fatballs at Poundstretcher for £5.99 though their peanuts are dearer than the local market. Birds are all over them.
