I noticed a female blackbird busy collecting nesting material today, and also spotted the wrens flying in and out the ivy on the fence near where they nested last year. Saw my first Red Kite today, a wonderful sight, it was circling around for some time before it disappeared. There was an article in the local paper a couple of weeks ago that they had been seen in the area but I didn't expect to see one myself.

Lucky you seeing one peony we have plenty of buzzards, but I don't think kites are this far down. My nesting blackbirds have nearly destroyed the liner on an old hanging basket so far for their nest

I voted for the robin in the original poll last year & was torn between that, the wren & the blackbird but thought I'd stick with my first choice as nearly every garden has one at some time or other & they're the very recognisable.

Just voted for the Robin, as, at every garden I go to, I have at least one of them keeping me company.

Plenty of activity on my feeding station at present. I'm having to top up the seed feeder virtually every other day. The fatballs seem to be out of favour at the moment though.
I saw the kestrel in the garden the other day again, sitting on the shed for a while.

The blackbirds were busy today gathering up nesting material and one is trying to build a nest on the roof of the blue tit box, not an ideal place as the box is on the wall of OH's workshop which has a flat roof with guttering which tends to overflow in heavy rain

They do pick some daft places sometimes don't they peony! I saw a female blackbird picking up nesting material as well this morning, I'm sure there are nests in the trees at the end of ours & next door's already but they do change their minds a lot.

SueA, I'm hoping she will abandon it because I don't think the blue tits will use the box with a blackbird nest on the top

The bluetits will probably want a house - not an apartment peony!

I saw the female blackbird on the patio this afternoon looking through the doors & wondered what she was doing. Next thing she jumped up into the little olive tree, you could see it shaking & then she jumped down only to repeat this a few more times. After she'd gone I went out to see what she'd been up to - I think she's developed a taste for a Mediterranean diet as a few of the tiny olives are now missing!
