So sad, SueA! At least it's early enough in the year for the birds to have another go at nesting. Bless these ducks! It would be lovely if they could stay.

I walked out the greenhouse tonight just as a blackbird flew out of the hedge - I've never collided with a flying bird before, but it was a near thing! I saw bright orange beak and beady eyes heading straight for my expensive glasses We both squawked and Mr Blackbird did an impressive head stand/barrel roll combination move (or something!) and saved my specs with inches to spare. Unless he actually wanted to bomb me and bottled out at the last sec?

He could have been trying to warn you off his nest Bess or he could just have been a bit short sighted, they do dive out of bushes a lot, often straight across the road in front of your car! Saw the wren back in our garden this afternoon putting leaves in the roosting pocket in the clematis on the patio again, it's more camouflaged now by the clem but still not an ideal place, will see if it stays. The mallards on the back field stayed for about a week but left when the puddles dried up - they might be back after all this rain- big puddles back!

Well, maybe the ducks know something we don't. They might be quite sure the puddles are going to be there all summer. And tbh the way the weather is going right now... they could be right?! Had a young blackbird stuck in my greenhouse today - probably went in there for the bugs, a lot get stuck behind the shading. It was lucky my husband noticed it, and got it before the cats did - well, one cat did grab it briefly, but husband grabbed the cat! Mum and Dad blackbird were having forty fits outside the glass, and seemed suitably grateful once Blackbird Jr was returned mostly in one piece. Thankfully no plants damaged in the scrum, just liberal birdy poops around the area. I really feel like i've got a proper garden now, now I'm back to rescuing birds from a greenhouse Mr Robin was having a whale of a time today stuffing his face on what the gardener found as he dug a border. I am bit worried how brave he seems - I'm pretty sure the cats aren't going to sit there saying 'awww' when he lands right by them!

I had to rescue a bird too Bess the other day,was at the end of the garden & I heard what I thought was the baby starlings fighting but it started to sound more frantic & when I looked round the corner a local cat had one in it's mouth. I shouted 'BAD CAT, drop that bird!' & it was so surprised that it did & the bird flew off! Did the same years ago with the cat we eventually adopted - she was so shocked that I could shout that she opened her mouth in surprise too!

A couple of our 'brownies' baby starlings having a chat on the fence! A tip Bess which I've found since having a 'proper' greenhouse is if you get a bird flapping around in there just open the door wide & then walk round to the back of the greenhouse & move towards the glass & the bird will usually fly off away from you & straight out of the door - wouldn't help with the one stuck behind your shading though but I've done that on dopey woodpigeons & bewildered young blackbirds who have got in & couldn't find their way out & started battering themselves against the windows!

@joysie you could ask a neighbour to help rescue it if you can't, other than that the RSPCA might help

joysie21 if it's got into the loft there's a chance it might find it's way out the same way but if you have a velux type window in your roof you could get someone to go up & open it if you can't get up there yourself & it will fly out. We got a starling in our loft once at our old house & it managed to get out. Or if you don't have a window in the roof & you're not frightened of a bird flapping around you could leave your loft hatch open & open a door to the bathroom if it's close to that (close all the others) & open the window in the bathroom wide so it can fly out that way.
