You poor thing Esther, what a good thing you didn't wander too far. There will be many questions now as it really shouldn't happen. Was it completely empty, how old, what make and so on. I recon it should not happen and that the makers owe you.

that must have been awful for you Esther, it's a good job you checked when you did or it could have been much worse I've had an iron explode on me, but luckily I was there at the time. My youngest son works in an electrical shop and is always warning me not to leave things on unattended, another one is mobile phone chargers. I'm glad you are ok, although it must have really shaken you up

Just glad you are ok and you found the fire before it really took hold. Dread to think what would have happened if the fire had been left any longer.

Poor Esther....what a horrible experience Hope you feel better today A timely reminder for us all not to leave electricals unattended when switched on...particularly irons. Talking of which, mine has "blown the fuse" twice over the last week....my new one should arrive today

Esther what a shock. You potentially saved a whole bedroom and maybe a house. You will need a new ironing board as well as an iron by the sound of it. I am so glad you are alright.
Grindle, I did not know that mobile phone chargers should not be left on. Thankyou for the warning.
I iron sitting down in the kitchen, and there I have a fire blanket hanging on the wall and a foam sprayer in the corner on the worktop. Actually, this came off the boat, but now I am more than pleased to have it there.

Oh Esther, I'm sorry to hear of your shock. I can't imagine what a fright you must have had. I hope you'll feel a bit better as the day goes on.

I just read your story to my husband Esther. He feels very sorry for you and thought this was a good warning.
Grindle was a great help too, because I think I leave the charger on too long.
Some good is coming out of your loss and shock.

Blimy Esther, you poor thing, what a scare you must have got. The main thing is that your alright. You were very clever in doing the right thing with the iron and board. I remember being told about not leaving mobiles on unattended a while ago, i never do it now.
