Hope you're feeling less shaky now Esther, it sounds as though you coped better than I would, I think I might have stood there panicking at first!

That was a very nasty experience, and I know it'll take a while to get over it. Well done you for keeping your head!

The main thing is that you are ok esther and that the damage was not as bad as it could have been. Now perhaps you will get Barry to do the ironing while YOU go down the allotment.

Esther what a shock. You potentially saved a whole bedroom and maybe a house. You will need a new ironing board as well as an iron by the sound of it. I am so glad you are alright. Grindle, I did not know that mobile phone chargers should not be left on. Thankyou for the warning. I iron sitting down in the kitchen, and there I have a fire blanket hanging on the wall and a foam sprayer in the corner on the worktop. Actually, this came off the boat, but now I am more than pleased to have it there. I get a rap across the knuckles if he finds my phone charger or my laptop lead left on in a plug, kids huh! ;D but I do know he's right.

Thanks for your sympathy everyone I have felt a bit rubbish today but hopefully will be able to sleep tonight - I really was very frightened by the fire - it could have been so much worse though - thank goodness for fire alarms !! I will need a new iron but the ironing board has survived - it needs new padding and cover. I hate ironing at the best of times - this experience hasn't helped

I do hope you can dissuade Barry from buying you a new iron for Christmas! ;D

It could be worth checking for the reason the previous one overheated.
