We have moved house last September and have a fairly decent sized front and back garden (Both of which need alot of work!). I started clearing the back before the bad snow hit us (pulling out brambles, weed spraying, digging what will be the Rockey over and lining a patch i was hoping to start with). I spent an afternoon in the garden this week lobbing the tops off grass (growing between the paving slabs) putting together what will be either a veggie patch or deep border (not decided what to put were yet really) and just tidying up alittle (hoping to get out there later today too if the weather holds off!). I also had abit of a play about on the yard area by my back door as i wanted some colour not a scrap of mud that was there before (we made a small raised ish border) my winter flowering plants have now died back and spring bulbs are poking through. Sorry if my post is long i just want to give an idea of what i am working with (basically a garden thats mostly paving slabs :-().
I'll get some photos of what i have to work with. I'll be asking for lots of advise re. what to plant and were. What I'm after is an enclosed cottage type garden lots of Green (no bare soil) lots of colour, strong smelling plants to attract butterfly's etc.

Hello and welcome Floydie. There will be lots of advice given here and we would like to know even more about your garden to see if we can be of assistance.
It sounds like you have done a lot already, even through this bad weather. You are a hardy type and will have it sorted in no time.
If bulbs are coming through, the house and garden can't be new.
Those paving slabs are going to come in very useful for the seating area and barbeque, unless you can afford fabulous paving.

Hello to you lot too :-). Thanks for the welcome i joined a different forum last night and was instantly banned for spamming (Hadn't even had my account verify ed so hadn't posted) and posted on a different one and have been ignored . I found a link of the old forum (Cannot remember what its called live for gardening or something). No the house isn't new its 1940s built but its new to us . The work Ive done is mostly tidying the back garden up abit, Ive been out today trimming the big bushy flowery plants back (Not a clue what they are but you will from the pics lol) and removing slate rubble (we've had a new roof recently) and rubbish from the beds.

Welcome from me, as well. You learned to post photos really quickly! It's interesting to see the 'before' pics, and although I can see you have a lot to do in your garden, there's a lot of expertise on here - so ask away if you want any advice.
