I've learned the hard way today not to leave buckets of planting materials by the kitchen door. My sister-in-law ended up peeling dahlia tubers thinking it was the new crop of sweet potato hubby had been digging up and had ginger tea boiling along the stove for her sore throat... except it was the ornamental ginger I was going to divide and replant.

Oh no. Not the gingers. Would it be one of the Hedychiums or the true ornamental Ginger?

It was a variegated shell ginger. I think it was my fault though, since we always put vege things that we picked from the garden in a bucket then leave it by the kitchen door when we're busy doing other stuff. I don't mind the dahlias much as I have lots of the same kind (I got a lot but they're only three kinds) that shell ginger was here when we moved and apparently it was a favorite plant of the deceased lady who used to own this place. Hope I don't get hauntings lol.

Hope nobody ate the dahlias, could have been nasty! Have you got any of the ginger left in the ground you could salvage?
