Is there an answer? The kinds of people who breed, own and fight these dogs are not going to bother with licences or chipping. Yes there is lock them up and throw away the key!

The Law, human rights, lack of funds, even K9 rights get in the way of positive solutions . The Police are'nt interested too busy with drug related. Even people aren't interested, how many have actually written to their MP? Something must be done for the sake of the next victim. Even if my MP rejects my suggestions he will at least be aware of my concern. If all those who worry about the problem write to their MP it would make a difference where it matters....in Parliament.

That is something some breeders are trying to push through anyway, that every breeder must have there pups chipped before sale, this will help in so many ways, but i think both the owners details and breeders details need logging! this will help if dogs go into rescue as the breeders can be contacted (i know i woulnt want any of my pups going into rescue) and also it will be a record of how many litters each breeder has a year (dam and sires details should be logged also) and how many litters each dam has a year (this will stop the bad breeders back to back breeding). I couldn't have put it better myself, and perhaps stiffer sentencing too. Yesterday while at the Vets a man called in with a lost black Lab, the vet was able to phone it's owner cos it was chipped. There are other issues with dogs too and I feel that Licencing would help overall. I'll pm you with a copy of my letter to MP.

Thank you read it and replied. I still think the breeders should be held responsible to chip the pups. I'm still not sure on licensing (even more so if its a per year cost) as i would have to re home my dogs if its a high cost . And so would many other people more dogs in rescues .

I'm showing my ignorance (again)! I thought it was the owners that would be licenced each dog could still be chipped and traced to their owner. I'm starting to see what a mine-field it all is.

Yes it is a mine-field, any changes need to be done slowly, if the law changes too quickly the rescues will be flooding, more strays on the streets, etc. They can make a start by dropping the pbt law, (keeping licensing on these breeds would still be a good idea), dogs should be seized from bad owners assessed correctly and re homed (if possible to experienced owners of these breeds) or sadly pts if they are deemed aggressive. (breeding of the pbt dogs should still be banned!). Also introducing the chipping system over the next year or so, so new puppy's are all covered.

I've signed.

After hearing the news this morning, I feel justified in emailing 2 MP's over Dogs. The MP for Chester wrote me saying that the matter was being dealt with, well they've made a start. There's much more to be done but at least they are listening.
