How do you convince someone that having a pond is good for the garden? I need a list of effective excuses. I want one just because I found this 7 dwarfs amusing, they'd need a pond though. These fellas are a bit expensive for me but I'll just have to save up for it. ;D

Wildlife is number one Jrae, but your wildlife could be alot wilder than the ones we try to encourage ;D

No excuses needed, it just is a good idea. More people need to include these habitats into their gardens, if they have the space - aswell as the time to maintain it.

You said hubby had started growing Nepenthes, if you put a pond in he could grow Sarracenias too. You could have your pond and have sarracenias growing around the outside. These are in boggy peat beside the pond. I took this shot to show how they grow in water, it was taken in the winter when they don’t look at their best. There are some amazing Sarracenias available from miniatures to ones with pitchers that will grow to 1m tall. They have some fantastic flowers too (not my photo)

A pond is just a great thing to have in your garden, it will benefit both yourselves and the wildlife

It would work so well for you in The Philippines. Don't let those monitors get too close.
It would not be a good idea in North Queensland because of the mosquitoes, some of which carry Ross River Fever which is common. My daughter has a swift creek at the foot of her garden which is on a slope.

I agree with what the others have said Jrae including (depending on where you site the pond) the fact that your husband could grow some plants in & around it which would then require less watering than at present.

The plants you got are really nice WF. I'll be looking up ponds DIY, not that I'll be doing the digging myself I just want to get an idea of how to do it right.
