Saw on the news tonight the government is thinking of selling off all the public owned forest areas like the Forest of Dean etc. to private consortiums whatever that means. This is only in England, not Wales or Scotland........yet. IMHO this is a disgraceful idea, how dare they just to try and make a few quid at our expense. These forests are part of our heritage. Perhaps they could try and sell off Westminster instead and dump all the useless inhabitants in the Thames. signed: Highly indignant, Tunbridge Wells.

Dear Highly indignant, Tunbridge Wells. I fully agree with you, are we that desperate? I hope not. It would mean that we would one day be banned by some foreign landowner from roaming the English forests. Worse, the money would be squandered on other foreigners anyway. signed; Equally indignant !

On the Wild About Britain site/forum this topic has been discussed for a very long time, it's an outrageous idea I think the majority see it as we do.

It's a pit there's no economical way of asking us. I hope the 'oposition' fight it.

I'm an ass. What i was thinking and what i wrote were different things The discussion 'over there' is a more generalised topic of doing this same thing in all public forests and public open lands - still a hideous idea though

Its a disgraceful idea, they should be owned by the people to enjoy, not some private landlord, with plenty of cash, to challenge anything in future through the courts, what was agreed in the sale.

I agree but we do have to pay for maintenance, no small amount. Do you remember the right to roam when protesters/walkers trespassed and won.? I think the Gov is thinking along those lines. No public expense but rights of way. The debate will go on and become 'lively' I suspect.
