Hubby had to call off our trip to the beach today, me being the sickly runt that I am I woke up with a high fever. This always happen at the wrong time the doctor said I was just overly tired. Tired? But I was off work for a week and I've just been plain lazy when I have vacation leave. Bugger, now hubby has been packing my stuff and said he's going to have to take me to the hospital just to be on the safe side. I am so annoyed at myself because I always manage to ruin our family vacations.

I have dengue, very bad. We always put on mosquito repellant lotion everyday since dengue is a problem here. But I take a shower before dinner so I guess I hadn't noticed that I had been bitten by a mosquito when I was inside the house and that's probably how I got it.
Based on what the doctor told me, I'd have to spend the rest of my vacation here at the hospital. Boo-boo. It would have been better if they put me on a 2 patient room but the only vacant one was for a single bed only.
So I end up sleeping (out of boredom). I've always been a people person and having to stay by myself for long periods is not my thing. I've already managed to chat up all of the nurses doing the rounds and the residents.
I will just read up on anything gardening and pet related while I'm still holed up here.

Is it alright to have a pond when it would be a breeding place for mozzies?

Is it alright to have a pond when it would be a breeding place for mozzies? That was one of the reasons why hubby said he didn't want a pond. I even tried telling him we can put fish that are aggressive at eating mozzie larvae but still didn't convince him. A nearby rancher who learned I was in the hosp today came to visit and said it doesn't matter how clean our place is (no standing water), the mosquitoes breed on the swamp out in the wildlife sanctuary and there's probably nothing we can do about that. Although he suggested collecting dried up goat or sheep poo and burning them with a bit of straw would help drive the mozzies away because of the stink. I figured it would drive away all of our farm animals as well ;D including our farm workers.

Goodness me J, you poor thing, Hope you feel better soon. I won't worry about midgie bites anymore The big news on local TV is the schmallenberg virus which is caused by midge bites. Many farms are concerned at the huge amount of deformed lambs being born just now and the main lambing season starts next week. Those midgies on the west coast are bigger than mosquitoes Rosie. I think you could saddle them and ride them.

Take care jrae, what a shame to come down with that while you were on holiday. One of the pitfalls of living in a lovely tropical country like you do though I suppose, get well soon.
