Partly Grindle - also I am not allowed to lift anything heavy so I would only be able to use half a watering can of water at a time I would not use any more water using a hose but it would be much easier for me. I am starting to feel really miserable and wonder if I should just bin all the plants I have grown

Hope you get an exemption Esther. I have heard something about those drip/seep hose type systems being exempt too in some areas, do you have anything like that you could use?

The news today pictured a reporter at Denver Sluice which is between us and the shops and showed us the stupidity of sending enough water to fill an Olympic size swimming pool (you know how they go on) every twenty minutes to Essex. Essex does not have a water ban thanks to Norfolk, but we do. We could watch it pouring into the channel bound for Essex. So annoying.

As I understand it, some water companies have exemptions for ove 65s. So you wrinklies should check before struggling with watering cans ;D Personally I do not use a hose other than to top up the fishpond when a water change is required. All watering of plants in containers is done using a watering can filled from the rain butts. Occasionally I will pressure wash the drive but that isn't really gardening. Indeed the only plants that ever get watered here are those in containers or in g'house plus watering in only of new plantings. Everything else has to fend for itself. I remember during a ban in Surrey I poure over 50 2 gallon cans of water on my sweetpea beds which were bone dry with the ground cracking open. It didn't make the slightest bit of difference but when the rain finally came, the plants responded almost immediately with new growth and longer stems.
