Hallo Lou - I was pleased that my little collection meets the royal standards! ;D I've just looked for a photo of 'City of Rotterdam' which I grew in 2009 and lost. My fault for not digging it up! I was chuffed to find it in the catalogue! I think it's a cactus dahlia, isn't it?

Ooooooonice Rosie!!...which ones did you get?. Did you like "Abbie"? I looked at Abbie, last year in Halls cat, i liked the colour of it, but my personal opinion, it was not for me, a show variety.

i'll let you post this if you think it is ok tel. I used chase barn cloches which I had at the time and placed them on top of my compost heap which was very warm due to the litter from the rabbit hutch. We had rabbits when the kids were young.) i placed the tubers in trays and placed direct on the compost heap and covered with the cloche which was closed at the ends. i was producing shoots from the tubers in February when snow was on the ground but my little mini g'house was snug and warm. i suppose you could do similar with a traditional hotbed if you have access to stable manure. anyway tel. it worked for me.
