Finally got my grenador pastelle delivered from lochend today, quite surprised as they phoned last week to say I would only get a couple and the rest would be a substitute but all 15 were grenador. To late to grow on and plant out now tho they will have to do as pot tubers for next year

how many pairs of leaves on them? I've got some very late rooted Primrose Pastelle that i did myself that are quite thin, compact though, and at 3 leaf stage and i reckon they'll be ready in September.....even though i want them in August. I won't be planting them out for at least 2, maybe 3 weeks.

Most have 3 pairs of leaves scrumpy but 3 or 4 are a liitle bigger with 4 pairs .Only problem is I was wanting to get a double stop out of them and them to be ready for harrogate If possible.Might save a bit of room and see what they are like in a couple of weeks.

I'm sure they'll have some sort of blooms for Harrogate. Doubt if you'll get a double stop, but if size is a problem you might get away with a single stop and growing off a side shoot down the axils or off wing buds....only one way to find out

I should finish planting out the dahlias today. Trying to sort out a few plants for the first two smaller local shows the last week in Aug, first week in Sept, that i have supported for the last 18 years, this year is more difficult, when i am concentrating more on Harrogate this year, rather than other shows. But i am going through a guilt complex, at the moment because i know from previous experience in the last few years that if i do not take any blooms to these 2 shows there will not be many exhibits on the dahlia bench, then i would feel i have let the local shows down.

Thats a tricky one Tel ....I know you have supported your local shows for many years....but if you really have a good "feeling" about Harrogate this year.....put yourself first for a change ..and miss out a few of the locals....there will be other years. I haven't finished planting out yet either.....the ones I have left will all have to go in large pots; I've "pinched" enough space at the allotment....I have to leave room for my veggies..lol ;D

I know the feeling tel 2 or 3 of me and my mates try to keep the local shows going with flowers, but 3 local shows have gone by the wayside in the last 2 years and the commitee at the local wmc show refuse to open dahlias (2 of them grow them and dont like the competition ).My first show (if anything is ready) is an open show at a wmc about 5 miles away august bank holiday weekend. It gives you a chance to shake the cobwebs off and a lot of good local growers attend because the prize money is good.Theres a multi vase class of three vases of three witch phil watson usually wins (dahlia bully). The weekend after that is wolsingham agricultural show with shows on both saturday and sunday with all classes taken in and lots of multi vase classes (won small dec class last year with joan walker )then the week after that there is an open section at darlington c&d society. Then will be looking towards harrogate (hopefully going to have a go at the intermediate championship class) and the third saturday in sept its my own c&d society show (bishop auckland).

My show plans start mid-August with Pengegon Show (at the end of my own street), then next day West Cornwall Dahlia Club (WCDC) Main Show, then week later Cornish Dahlia Society (CDS) Early Show, then the bank holiday weekend 3 day show being the CDS Main Show held at Nat' Trust Trelissick Gardens, then into September and WCDC Late Show, then Leedstown Village Show, and maybe if I keep them growing into mid October as I did last year I'll do St.Day Village Show. I used to do far more shows but that was back in the days of Carnations and anything in the garden, Ive always loved marigolds for an instant impact:)
